Our initial three year initial project was funded by three local foundations and by the City of Grand Rapids. We are a 501(c)3 organization. We were first funded in July of 2002 by Steelcase Foundation. Grand Rapids Community Foundation and Frey Foundation awarded us funding shortly after.
We are currently acquiring funding for the next phase of raingardens.org.
Our project strategies include local and regional partnerships, and collaborative projects.
Those seeking to start their own rain garden initiative should include the above strategies. Sometimes the installation of a rain garden can be successfully financed through a local watershed project information and education fund.
We are fortunate to have developed wonderful partnerships with local and national businesses, that have donated either materials, labor, or professional expertise to our project. We also have tremendous participation by volunteers, who donate their time and skills to Rain Gardens of West Michigan. These gifts have enabled us to enhance our project beyond the boundaries of what we originally proposed to accomplish. We are grateful for the involvement of all these talented and dedicated people.
